PRINCESS CUT BLUE SAPPHIRE ENGAGEMENT RING — STELLO SETTING, 18K GOLD
Regular price $2,195.00A star caught on the finger — in deep water.
Stella is Latin for star — the oldest symbol we have. Before clocks, before maps, before written language, people looked up and steered their lives by points of light that had guided everyone who came before them. A star is what you wish on. What you keep your word by. The thing that stays still while everything else moves.
This ring is built on a simple, unshowy idea: rotate a princess cut forty-five degrees, and the stone stops reading as a square. It reads as a four-point star. No halo, no pavé, no side stones — just the cut of the stone, turned the right way, set at the center of a slim solitaire band. The geometry does the whole job.
With a sapphire at the center, the star cools into blue. Sapphire is the older engagement stone — older than the diamond by centuries. Before twentieth-century marketing rewrote the tradition, sapphire was what you gave. Medieval kings wore them as protection against envy and infidelity; Persian cosmology held that the earth itself sat on a giant sapphire, and the color of the sky was its reflection. The stone has always meant faithfulness, wisdom, and the part of the heavens that never changes. Princess cut rotated to a kite, that fidelity holds itself as a blue star — a fixed point of color, the kind you could steer by.
The center stone sits between 3.75 and 4mm depending on the particular sapphire sourced for your piece — small but declarative, a quiet square of color, slim enough at 1.75mm of band to stack with other rings, strong enough to be the only ring if that's what you want.
It is a minimal ring for a reason. A promise doesn't need to be decorated. A star doesn't need to be louder than itself.
Every stone is natural and ethically sourced. The sapphire is heat-treated, as the overwhelming majority of fine sapphires in the trade are — a standard, long-accepted process that brings out the color locked inside the stone. The 18k gold is solid and recycled where possible. The setting is built using old world techniques by hand — the same methods that have defined fine jewelry for centuries.
